ExerciseTV Fits New Carriage Deals

FiOS, Buckeye, Wave, Service Electric Among New Carriers For VOD Service

By Linda Moss -- Multichannel News, 1/13/2009 2:03:00 PM

ExerciseTV, the video-on-demand fitness service, has signed new distribution deals, including one with Verizon FiOS TV, that will add another 2 million subscribers to its footprint, officials said Tuesday.

In addition to Verizon, Exercise TV has struck carriage agreements deals with Shrewsbury Electric & Cable Operations, Buckeye CableSystem, Wave Broadband, Astound Broadband and Service Electric Cablevision.

The agreements increase ExerciseTV’s presence in 14 states, and the service is now available in nearly 32 million digital-cable homes throughout the country.

“ExerciseTV is setting precedent in the on-demand television world, not only creating a successful VOD business model that has never existed, but also continuing to add distribution at a record pace,” Jake Steinfeld of Body by Jake, and ExerciseTV founder, said in a statement. “In three years since we launched, we are thrilled to be able offer this category-killer fitness network to millions of people nationwide across most all major U.S. markets. On the heels of an outstanding 2008, we are extremely well-positioned to continue our upward trajectory in 2009.”

The new distribution comes as ExerciseTV offers the “New Year, New You Challenge,” a four-week workout plan designed to help viewers make the commitment to working out everyday. Users can take the first step to making exercise a part of their daily routine by following the workout plan and using the free workouts in the specially marked “New Year, New You” folder on ExerciseTV On Demand.

ExerciseTV just passed 150 million VOD views since its January 2006 launch, and consistently ranks in the top 20 of all VOD channels, and No. 1 in the sports and fitness category.
