Time Warner Cable Staffer Among Plane Crash Survivors

All Passengers, Crew Reportedly Survive Emergency Landing in Hudson River

By Kent Gibbons -- Multichannel News, 1/15/2009 5:02:00 PM

A Time Warner Cable employee based in Charlotte, N.C., was among 150 passengers on a US Airways jet that crashed into the Hudson River Thursday afternoon shortly after takeoff from New York’s LaGuardia Airport and was said to be “shaken up but otherwise OK.”

News reports citing the Federal Aviation Administration said all passengers and crew members were accounted for after the crash.

Various news agencies reported that the FAA said the plane, an Airbus 320, struck birds and suffered engine failure shortly after takeoff around 3:26 p.m., headed to Charlotte.

Ellen East, TWC’s executive vice president of communications, said one female employee, from the company’s accounting department, was on the flight.

“Reports are she’s shaken up but otherwise OK,” East said Thursday afternoon. She did not name the employee.

New York City-based TWC has a large employee contingent in Charlotte.

Passengers were taken to hospitals in New York City and New Jersey, on the opposite shore of the Hudson.

US Airways and FAA officials said it appears that all 150 passengers and five crew members were accounted for after the crash.
