Dish Network is Not Using Their NogginJanuary 2, 2008 When Noggin goes off we switch the channel to another kid friendly channel, which is one of the Disney Channels, but the programs on these channels seem to wind him up more then calm him down, and he ends up going to bed pretending his is a “Power Ranger.” Imagine how happy I was when Viacom announced on August 13th, 2007 that Noggin would be going 24 hours on December 31st, and that “The N” would be becoming its own separate channel, replacing Nick Games and Sports. We woke up on the 31st to find Noggin on Dish Network; we went ahead in the guide and saw the listings for Noggin, it looked like indeed Noggin was now 24 hours. In looking around I could not find “The N”, I tuned to the Nick Games and Sports channel to find it still on the air. I thought that was strange, but didn’t pay too much attention to it. On New Years Eve, my son and I sat and watched a special “Franklin” movie, this movie was to celebrate the fact that Noggin was now 24 hours. Part the way into it the movie cut off and we were now seeing “The N” instead. My son was upset he wanted to watch the rest of the movie. I am lucky enough to also have DirecTV so I let him watch the rest of the film in my bedroom. For many other Dish Network customers they did not have the option to watch the end of the movie on DirecTV. Many of the online satellite forums had messages from angry parents about the lack of 24/7 Noggin (and others were upset that there is no 24/7 “The N”) Calls into Dish Network by customers got a bunch of different answers of why Noggin and The N were not 24 hours on Dish Network. Some folks even used the online support chat feature that Dish Network offers and were told “DISH Network customers will NOT be impacted by the change for The-N/Noggin.” What makes this even stranger is that every cable company and DirecTV have made the changes, Dish Network seems to be the only provider to still be timesharing Noggin and The N. Emails to Dish Network and Viacom about this issue were not returned by press time. If I get anything I will update this entry.
CorrectionIn my year-end recap on Monday, I incorrectly stated that Dish Network was the first satellite company to broadcast in MPEG4. While that may have been true for national HD MPEG4, it was actually DirecTV who first used MPEG4 to transmit MPEG4 signals into the Detroit DMA. I do apologize for the error. In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin Kyle Luna commented:
I got confirmation from one of the publicity reps at Nick that Dish Network is the only provider doing this, and that Dish Network is the only provider that will be carrying Nick GAS. (Even the listing providers were anaware of this, initially Zap2it had SIGN OFF listed for GAS on Monday and TV Guide began listing programming for The N starting at 6am)

Still awaiting a response from them on a reason why Dish gets to have a private feed for GAS continue, and continue to split Noggin and The N, and why other providers didn't get the option to keep GAS.

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin Shannan commented: I will change to a different provider if Dish does not show more respect for young families. They are going to lose a lot of business, especially when other providers are equal in price and better in programming. I don't get mad easily, especially about TV shows, but I am really upset about this whole thing!! Thanks for the write-up and keeping us updated.

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin Kyle Luna commented: Nick GAS is just a shell of it's former self, the only thing they show pre-90s is the late night airings of Finder's Keepers. Hopefull the fact that Nick GAS is continuing as a E* exclusive doesn't prevent Nick from continuing with their plan to move Nick GAS shows to Turbo Nick.

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin Joi commented: I am a Dish Network customer, and I too, called them on Dec. 31 to find out what was going on. I was told that Noggin is from 6 am to 6 pm and it was not scheduled to change. The CSR that I talked to was totally unaware that the network was supposed to become 24 hours. He even argued about the guide listings, and said that Franklin was not on! That seemed very unprofessional that the employees had no idea of the situation to even give suitable answers. Then I logged on to chat with a rep who said that I wouldn't be "incovenienced" by the change. Um, I wanted to be inconvenienced!! Nobody asked what I wanted--and I'm paying the bill!!

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin Dan commented: My wife and I are very disappointed in this programming move by Dish. We too were looking forward to having Noggin available 24 hours a day. It's not as if Dish doesn't have the bandwidth to give both Noggin and The N their own dedicated channels. The EPG is even screwed up - it lists Noggin programming overnight on 169, even though they're feeding The N. I hope Charlie corrects this problem soon, or he may lose a good number of subs to DirecTV or even cable.

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin George commented: Here's a transcript of a Chat I had with one of their probably not-located-in-America Customer Service Representatives on 01/02/07. We need to fight this. Let's FLOOD Dish with calls, chats, e-mails, etc. etc. They can have a dozen shopping channels, tons of Pay Per View, etc etc....but family programming gets treated as unpimportant. Let's let them know that this is UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!!!!

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin Mom to J & I commented: I just spent a very looooooong time on the phone with 3 different people from Dish Network. At this time they are not showing that they will carry the new programming. However, if enough people call and request a programming change - they will consider a change. No one that I spoke with said anything about any technical difficulties, instead all 3 people said that they are showing that dish customers will not be affected by the Noggin/N programming change. PLEASE, PLEASE call dish and tell them that you want 24/7 Noggin and 24/7 the N. PLEASE!!!

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin Tim commented: I have a better solution. I'm dropping DISH and going with another provider that carries Noggin 24/7. It's being installed next week. That's the great thing about competition. This is typical of DISH. Their service is spotty and thier customer service is non-existent. They have a "You'll take what we give you and you'll like it" attitude. no more.

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin Amber commented: I have called two or three times myself and will call again this evening if things have still not changed. I will be moving in a few months so I probably will not switch providers at this time, but if they do not go to the 24/7 Noggin programming I will NOT be using Dish Network when we settle into a new home elsewhere. I'm VERY disappointed about this, as is my husband and my 4 year old son. It might not be so bad if Noggin and Nick weren't advertising it all the time saying Noggin is 24/7, so my son doesn't understand why he can't watch Noggin after 5pm. The customer service reps I talked with were very rude with me. I honestly expect the same when I call this even as I'm sure things will be the same this evening. I think I'll probably switch regardless when I move actually. I've never had trouble with Dish in the past but this is just becoming unacceptable.

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin Julie commented: As a young adult I do agree the younger children needs Noggin 24/7. Im a huge fan of the - n though and want it to be 24/7 as well. I find it very unfair that dishnetwork hasnt made switch to run both channels 24/7.I feel they will lose alot of viewers this way. Im sorry if I sounded rude but the teens and young adults would like there channel 24/7 just as much as viewers with younger children

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin Paul Johnson commented: I am cancelling my dish network due to things like this as well as improper grounding on the installation at my home by some kid they sent out. I have a lot of equipment I don't want blown up because dish network techs ( installers ) are bone heads. I am going with FTA and a few ala-carte subscriptions for far less money each month.

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin Stephanie commented: I am really interested in knowing if they are going to go with two channels or what? No one got an answer to that yet? My tv is still playing NOGGIN half day and the N the other half. I personally don't understand how they can be the only provider not offering 2 channels. They have to know they will lose customers. I am a new dish customer and I am really disappointed.

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin skq commented: It is a shame that the Dish Network does not provide "young and appropriate" family friendly programming. We are in a tricky situation, we live in a sub-division that is considered an "LLC" we are unable to choose are cable provider. I was so disappointed to learn that Dish has no concern for families or their needs.

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin Mojo commented: Heres an idea. Don't sit your kids in front of the tv for hours at a time and do some actual parenting rather than having your tv babysit the kids and then bitching about the provider only showing sugary programming that rots their brain for 12 hours instead of 24.

January 19, 2008
In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin Kyle Luna commented: What are you talking about? DirecTV has the same Noggin feed as Cable, I get schedules directly from Nick's publicity dept and it's the same schedule as they have. It's probably an instance of a schedule change, which Nick does a lot on their schedules, and not being reflected in the EPG in time.

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin Kyle Luna commented: BTW, I just looked into it. The Backyardigans movie they were advertising premiered on Nickelodeon on Monday, Noggin didn't air it until this morning, and that airing was on DirecTV. You probably misinterpreted the promos and thought the Monday night premiere was on Noggin.

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin CJ commented: Kyle, I told my wife what you said and she said Wonder Pets was on between 9 and 10 am this morning on Noggin on Directv in Manatee County, FL. We are really pissed we aren't getting this movie; it was just advertised yesterday to be on Noggin at 9am this morning, BUT IS WAS NOT. What do I do? Give me more info so I can call tech support and tell them you in ?? on channel ?? can get it, but I cannot.

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin ihy. commented: I hate Dish Network. Their so-called "customer service" sucks. I really want to be able to watch The-N 24/7 but Dish is making this impossible. I had DirecTV until about three days ago, because my dad wanted Dish. So I can't switch back.
January 20, 2008
In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin CJ commented: Both Dish and Directv do not show all the Noggin programming, where one only shows it from 6am to 6pm, and the later omits the movies. Is this Noggin or the satellite tv company's fault?
January 20, 2008
In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin Kyle Luna commented: I'm looking at Noggin's latest grids right now, they only had ONE airing on Noggin, Saturday Morning at 9am ET. There are no future airings listed. Whoever's telling you they saw it multiple times on Noggin is lying. Noggin has only aired TWO movies since they went 24/7, the one that aired the first day at 6pm which DirecTV DID air as Scott could tell you since his son watched it after Dish cut it off, and the Backyardigans one that aired Saturday. My publicity contact got back to me, she said DirecTV and Cable have the same feed, and it aired on both at 9am.

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin Skip commented: Talked to a supervisor at DISH tonight and was told that they made the decision to only show Noggin 6 AM to 6 PM, as has been the past, even though the programming is now available 24 hours. I was also told this was done in the interest of the customer. I strongly disagreed that this was in my daughter's interest, or that of any parent of a pre-schooler, and also expressed my opinion that it raised doubts in this customer's mind about the decision making of the company. There is no question about the quality of Noggin for pre-schoolers. And DISH has nothing else to offer this audience after 6:00 PM with any consistency. I encourage all parents to call and write. The supervisor did seem to understand my concern and assured me my views would be carried to a higher level. I invite others to join in.

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin landon'smom commented: To those of you that say get your kids outside instead of infront of the TV. My son is 3 will be 4 in April. He plays outside and in the house w/o the TV all the time. You can't have a kid that has more family time than him! But as a parent it is nice that you have the option of having age appropriate television offered 24/7. That doesn't mean that I will let my son watch Noggin 24/7, nor would he want to.

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin heather commented: Not me! I cancelled their sorry butts today, 4 days after contract expiration, not because of the Noggin thing, but for just plain shoddy customer service. It felt good to tell them I was switching to Direct.
March 21, 2008
In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin Heather commented: We are switching to Comcast because of Dish's lack of regard for their loyal customers in this matter. We called customer service several times about this & we got so many different answers. We were told they were going to have Noggin 24/7 very soon. Then we were told by someone else that we would not be "inconvenieced" by the change & that Dish would still be splitting the channel. Sorry, but we wanted to be "inconvenieced" by the change! Our 4 yr. old daughter only really likes Noggin, so this is very disappointing. Thank goodness our Dish contract is done with, so we can change providers.

In response to: Dish Network is Not Using Their Noggin DDinTV commented: If this were a dispute between Dish and Viacom, I'm sure that Viacom wouldn't be providing them an exclusive feed of Nick GAS. I don't think things are going to change for a long time, but even so, I would never switch to Comcrap. The digital channels on Dish look so much better than the analog-marketed-as-digital channels on any cable service. I just record "Pocoyo" off PBS. My kid will watch that show any time of the day or night.
