  • Discovery Kids takes ‘Louie’ for U.S. Hispanic market
    Underscoring the emergence of U.S. Hispanic TV as a fertile niche market for Euro TV toon series, Discovery Kids en Español has taken U.S. Spanish-language rights to all seasons of “Louie,” produced by France’s Millimages. The series, based of nutritional sketches for kids, already airs on Spanish-language pay TV channel Somos TV, while Mega TV has taken Spanish-language U.S. rights on a non-exclusive basis for free TV, cable and satellite. more » » »

  • Cox Adds Sí TV in Arizona
    Sí TV said it has launched on Cox Communications in Arizona, starting in the Phoenix area on Dec. 19, and is headed toward statewide carriage on Cox by mid-2009. The launch in the eighth-biggest U.S. Latino market makes Sí TV available in more than 25% of the nation’s Hispanic households, according to the network. MOVERS AND SHAKERS

Javier Maynulet has been appointed CFO of Telemundo Communications Group, the company announced this week. The Puerto Rico native is now charged with overseeing financial operations of the Telemundo Network, Telemundo Stations, cable network, digital business, international distribution and studios and will report to Telemundo chief Don Browne. Prior to joining Telemundo, Maynulet was svp CFO of Universal Media Studios & Universal Cable Productions, NBC Universal.

Kevin Conroy has been appointed president of the Univision Interactive Media, the online division of Univision Communications Inc., and formerly known as Univision Online. Prior to joining Univision, Conroy was evp of global products and marketing at AOL. He will be based in New York and report directly to CEO Joe Uva.

Cuban actress-turned entrepreneur Sissi Fleitas has signed an agreement with Venevision International to enable AT&T and Sprint users in the U.S. and Puerto Rico to access a series of images of Fleitas and download them onto their mobile devices. The agreement, whose financial terms were not disclosed, was signed with Venevision’s mobile subsidiary Venemobile, which offers telenovela, videos, ring-tones and other content.

Peruvian talk show host Laura Bozzo has been tapped by Azteca America to host her own show from Mexico City still to be named. Prior to joining Azteca, Bozzo was the host and producer of Laura en América, which aired on the Telemundo Network for years until 2008, when the network pulled the plug.
